INFERENCE-BASED CBT

(I-CBT)

Inference-based CBT targets what is called "inferential confusion." Inferential confusion is the main reasoning process that's responsible for OCD, according to this theory. This is a reasoning process someone has when they suffer from OCD and is when a person distrust their senses, including their common sense and their sense of self, while also getting absorbed in their imagination and a story.  The I-CBT treatment program aims to bring resolution of the obsessional doubts through a unique and stepped treatment program.

ABOUT THERESA

Theresa is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with over 11 years’ experience in providing evidence-based treatment to individuals and families.

She played an important role in the dissemination of I-CBT in the United States by creating one of the first weekly I-CBT group consultations for professionals. She has introduced I-CBT to dozens of clinicians, and her lived experience and recovery from OCD offer a valued perspective on effective treatment. She recognizes the importance of intersectionality and identity in her interactions with colleagues and clients.

Theresa collaborates frequently with Fred Aardema, the co-creator of I-CBT. She brings her expertise, energy, and enthusiasm to support clinicians treating OCD through I-CBT training and consultation. She loves to laugh and integrate humor in the recovery process.
